1. “It’s not my job.”

如果你确实爱莫能助,可以试试“I’d like to help out, but I don’t have the capacity right now.”

How can I help? I am available between 1-3 pm today.”

“A lot of people have been approaching me for help with X. In theory, I’d love to help, but in reality I don’t really have the time to offer much help and still juggle X and Y. I wanted to flag for you that it seems like people might need more guidance with X or better resources for tackling it, and also to check with you to see if there’s someone else I could be directing them to.”

2. “I don’t know”

INC的一篇文章介绍了几种巧说“I don’t know”的方法:

1. “I’ll find out.”

2. “I have the same question.”

3. “My best guess is…”

4. “Why don’t we ask [name]?”

3. “That’s not fair.”

“I noticed that you assigned Ann that big project I was hoping for. Would you mind telling me what went into that decision? I’d like to know why you thought I wasn’t a good fit, so that I can work on improving those skills.”

4. “There’s nothing I can do.”

“I’ll be glad to check on it again,”

“Let’s discuss what’s possible under these circumstances,”

“What I can do is ….”

5. “That makes no sense.”

“I’m not following you on this. Could you help me understand?”

“It’s probably me, but I don’t see how your suggestion can be applied to the current situation. Could you explain a bit more?”

“I disagree but it’s possible I don’t completely understand what you are saying. Are you saying that…”
