Writing contest for students

EngineerGirl Writing Contest:

The 2023 EngineerGirl Writing Contest asks students to write a piece that shows how female and/or non-white engineers have contributed to or can enhance engineering’s great achievements. The deadline for submission is February 1s. Winners are announced in the spring.

There are specific guidelines for each grade level:

Elementary School (grades 3-5)

Middle School (grades 6-8)

High School (grades 9-12)


AWM Student Essay Contest:

The essays will be based primarily on an interview with a woman currently working in or retired from a mathematical sciences career. Participation is open to middle school, high school, and undergraduate students. The deadline for submission is February 1st.  

This essay contest is open to students in the following categories:

Grades 6 – 8

Grades 9 – 12


The Elmbridge Literary Competition 2022-23

The 18th Elmbridge Literary Competition, run in partnership by The R C Sherriff Trust and Elmbridge Borough Council, is looking for your short stories and poems on the theme of ‘The Road’. The closing date for entries is 5pm Monday, Feb 27, 2023.

Age Categories:

Ages 5 – 7; Little rhymes and stories.

Ages 8 – 11 (Junior); Poems and short stories.

Ages 11 (Secondary) – 13; Poems and short stories.

Ages 14 – 18; Poems and short stories.

Ages Adult; Poems and short stories.


2023 Taradiddle Youth Writing Contest

Write original stories inspired by the Taradiddle animal-themed writing prompts.

Sign up by March 9 to receive the writing prompt via email. Contest starts on Thursday, March 9 and ends on Monday, March 13.

There are two age categories: Elementary Contests for ages 13 years and younger and High School Contests for ages 14-18 years.
