(A Flash Fiction)
By Lorna Ye
A song caught his attention. The melody echoed his sentiment and the lyric touched his heart like a warm sunlight, illuminating the dream embedded in him. He looped the song on his smartphone on his humdrum trips to and from work, thanking the singer for filling the blankness in his life with some color.
Settling on a hard, narrow seat on the subway train, as always, he scanned news from his phone while the song was playing in the earbuds. A headline drew his eyes— an open apology of the singer for plagiarizing the song from a less known foreign song.
Disheartened, he deleted the song permanently, wishing he had never read the news or had never heard the song.
